The Judges of the Western District of North Carolina would like to express their appreciation to the many attorneys who have volunteered and participated in our Pro Se Settlement Assistance Program over the past several years.

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of N.C. established a Pro Se Settlement Assistance Program to assist in the administration of justice by providing civil pro se litigants with limited advice and representation at settlement conferences. The program is available for voluntary application to all civil cases in which any party appears pro se with the exception of civil rights cases, cases filed under 28 USC Sect. 2254 or 2255, bankruptcy appeals, social security cases, and any case in which the U.S. government is a party. At the conclusion of the settlement conference the attorney’s representation concludes.
The Court is grateful to the volunteer lawyers who provide their time and resources to preserve access to justice for those unable to afford an attorney.
