Several HHS Departments Move to 40 Coxe

Buncombe County Health and Human Services Administration, Health Registrar, and Social Work Services, including Aging and Adult Services and Child and Family Services, are now located at 40 Coxe Avenue in Downtown Asheville. With this move, the Buncombe County Health and Human Services building is now a comprehensive human services center.

This relocation provides a one-stop shop for our community’s public health and human services needs.

The Family Justice Center will remain at 35 Woodfin Street with no modifications to their service array. No interruptions to services are expected during this move and all other methods of contact will continue to be the same.

Services: 

The HHS building at 40 Coxe, conveniently located across from the bus station on Coxe Avenue, now includes:

  • Economic Services: provides assistance to support low-income individuals and families through job training and employment services, food assistance, quality health care and health care coverage, energy assistance, and other economic supports for families.
  • Health Registrar: obtains and preserves documents of all births and deaths in Buncombe County including home birth registrations.
  • Public Health: promotes and protects health through clinical services, immunizations, STI Testing and Clinic, Environmental Health, disease control, WIC, and more.
  • Social Work Services: Includes Child and Family Services providing protective services, family in-home services, and permanency planning; and the Aging and Adult Services division provides Adult Protective Services, Adult Care Home Licensing, Guardianship, Services for the Blind, and more.
  • Veterans Services: assistance to veterans and their families including disability, burial, and dependent and survivor benefits, education and training, health care, home loans, life insurance, and more.

Parking: 

Buncombe County Health and Human Services visitors can park for free at the parking deck at 11 Sears Alley with handicap accessibility. Visitors should bring their parking ticket with them to get them validated for free parking. Free parking is only available at the parking deck, street parking or other lots do not apply.
