Seeking Volunteer Law Student Intern

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina is accepting applications for a volunteer student intern for summer, 2019.

Job Description: 

Law students can expect to research and draft motions and responses in pending cases; to research legal issues for indictments and investigations; to assist AUSAs in preparing for criminal trials, including assembling exhibits, drafting jury instructions and compiling exhibit and witness lists; and to attend hearings and trials as work schedules permit.

About the Office: 

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina is responsible for the prosecution of all federal crimes in western North Carolina. The office also represents the United States and its departments and agencies in civil proceedings files in federal court. Volunteer interns assist the prosecution of criminal cases and the prosecution and defense of civil cases in the District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Rising 2Ls and 3Ls will be considered for the summer program to work in the Criminal and Civil Divisions. Due to the sensitive nature of the work performed at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, student volunteers will be subject to a background investigation and must be a United States citizen.

The summer program requires a minimum 10 weeks of full-time commitment.


Volunteer (uncompensated). Course credit may be available per school policies.
