Seeking Legal Assistant/Paralegal
Campbell Shatley PLLC, a dynamic Asheville law firm focusing on local government and education law, seeks a full-time legal assistant to join its team. Paralegal experience is a plus but is not required to apply. The successful candidate will show an aptitude for learning and applying skills to a wide variety of legal practices, which will vary frequently between litigation filing and timelines, scheduling, discovery, real estate document preparation and filing, and more. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills a must. The candidate will also need the ability to adapt quickly to diverse personalities and work styles.
Specific job duties include working full-time, in-person, hours to accomplish the following:
• Welcoming guests and clients by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answering or directing inquiries.
• Producing information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics; coordinating case preparation.
• Proofreading, researching, reviewing, verifying, cite checking and routing correspondence, reports and legal documents; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications; organizing client conferences, and attorney meetings; scheduling couriers, court reporters, expert witnesses, and other special functions; coordinating preparation of charts, graphs, and other courtroom visuals; preparing expense reports.
• Proofreading all legal filings and mastering administrative, county, state and federal electronic filing systems.
• Representing attorneys by communicating and obtaining information; following-up on delegated assignments; knowing when to act and when to refer matters to attorney.
• Documenting and inputting attorney billable time and reimbursable expenses; preparing invoices; tracking payments.
• Maintaining client confidence by keeping client/attorney information confidential.
Skills and Qualifications:
Applicant must be professional, dependable and have excellent communication skills. The applicant must also be proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Two years of higher education required, four-year degree preferred. Paralegal certificate a plus.
The applicant must be available to work full-time, in-person, hours at the Asheville, N.C. office.
