Bio: Profile and Overview

Ms. Stevens has represented, in state and federal court, approximately 50 men and women facing the penalty of death at trial, post conviction, on appeal and in clemency proceedings.  Her recent clients include Dylann Roof, Gary Hilton, Demario Atwater, and James Bradley.  She has represented capitally accused men and women in the Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, the District of South Carolina, the Western District of Virginia, the Middle District of Tennessee, the District of Nevada, the Western and Southern Districts of Texas, the Western District of Kentucky, the Eastern District of Oklahoma, and the District of Puerto Rico.

The Capital Resource Counsel Project provides direct representation to persons facing the federal death penalty at trial, and provides consultation assistance to capital defense teams around the country. Our website is hosted at www.capdefnet.org.

Awards

J. Kirk Osborn Award for Excellence in the Representation of Indigent Men and Women Facing the Death Penalty in North Carolina; The North Carolina Advocates for Justice Charles Becton Award for Excellence in Teaching; "A Conversation with Kimberly Stevens;" Invited Speaker at Wake Forest University School of Law -- the expressed goal of the speaker series is to bring "professional role models of the highest caliber" to the students. Past speakers have included Justices Ginsburg, Thomas and O'Connor, along with many others.
