Campbell Shatley represents North Carolina school boards, community colleges, and local governments. We are seeking a legal assistant or paralegal who enjoys varied work, takes ownership of details, and helps attorneys keep matters moving. Our practice includes litigation, special education, employment matters, general counsel work, construction, municipal, and other issues facing public clients. The person in this role will support multiple attorneys and work closely with our other support staff. Prior paralegal experience is welcome, but we also encourage experienced legal assistants to apply.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing, proofreading, formatting, filing, and serving pleadings, briefs, correspondence, discovery, and other legal documents.
- Assisting with school bond forfeiture matters, including tracking deadlines, preparing and filing documents, maintaining records, and coordinating with attorneys and school district clients.
- Tracking court deadlines, maintaining calendars and case files, and helping attorneys prepare for hearings, depositions, and meetings.
- Using state and federal electronic filing systems and confirming that filings and service have been completed correctly.
- Organizing records and discovery, coordinating document production, and following up on outstanding information.
- Communicating professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel’s offices, vendors, and colleagues.
- Scheduling meetings, hearings, court reporters, and other case activities.
- Entering attorney time and expenses and assisting with billing and other administrative work.
- Protecting confidential client information and recognizing when a question or decision needs an attorney’s attention.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, proofreading, and follow-through.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence managing competing deadlines and asking questions when priorities are unclear.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat; the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- A dependable, collaborative approach and comfort working with attorneys who have different practice areas and work styles.
Experience with litigation, electronic filing, or legal billing is especially helpful. A paralegal certificate or degree is a plus, but neither is required. We are willing to train a strong candidate who has the judgment, initiative, and organizational skills the role requires.
Benefits include health and dental insurance, life insurance, paid time off, free parking, and participation in the firm’s 401(k), 401(k) matching, and profit-sharing plans.
