You are cordially invited to join Our VOICE for its 40th Anniversary Celebration, 40 Years of Starting Conversations featuring keynote speaker Anita Hill, Brandeis University Professor of Law. Ms. Hill started a national conversation by disclosing her experience of workplace sexual harassment which focused the country’s attention on a difficult topic often met with avoidance and silence.
The celebration will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Diana Wortham Theatre, 2 S. Pack Square, Asheville, NC 28801. A welcome reception begins at 6 pm with the program following at 7 pm. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 25th. Our VOICE, Inc. is a non-profit crisis intervention and prevention agency which serves victims of sexual violence, age 13 through adult, in Buncombe County. The agency was founded in 1974 as an all-volunteer grassroots organization. The agency remained underground until 1982 when it received non-profit status and the first employee was hired. Now, 40 years and considerable growth later, Our VOICE employs six paid staff and over 50 volunteers, working both to support the healing of survivors of sexual violence and to prevent future acts of sexual violence.
