NCBA YLD Feeding Frenzy – Join In to Feed the Needy
The 2014 NCBA YLD Legal Feeding Frenzy competition begins March 10, 2014 and run through March 28, 2014. The Legal Feeding Frenzy is a joint program of the YLD, Attorney General Roy Cooper, and the North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks to reduce food insecurity through a statewide food and fund drive competition among law firms, law schools, and legal organizations. Attorney General Cooper will award the coveted Attorney General’s Cup to the organization with the highest overall per-person donations within five categories. The 2013 competition raised 180,000 pounds of food, providing the equivalent of 150,000 meals for our hungry neighbors across the state. The 2014 goal is 250,000lbs.
Law firms, district attorney and public defender offices, Legal Aid, courts and in-house legal groups are all able to participate in these categories based on size. As mentioned above, awards are based on the per capita donations within the category range to level the playing field between larger and smaller organizations. Food donations will be weighed upon delivery to the local food bank, and monetary donations are factored in at 4 lbs. of food for every $1 donated. Regardless of winners, all participating teams will be recognized on the NCBA’s website and in subsequent publications.
