NC Employment Law

CLE on NC Employment Law – Friday, January 19,  9am – 10:30am, Pisgah Legal Services’ Asheville Office, 62 Charlotte Street and on Zoom. 

This CLE will cover various aspects of Federal and NC Employment Law, as well as employment-related remedies. Topics include: 

  • At-Will Employment
  • Federal Laws: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Pregnancy Protections, Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act 
  • NC Employment Laws: Retaliatory Employment Discrimination Act, NC Wage and Hour Act, Negligent hiring and retention, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, Defamation, breach of contract, and unemployment laws 
  • Remedies: EEOC, Dept of Labor, Unemployment Process, Worker’s Compensation, and relevant information about the NC Court System and NC Dept of Labor 

Presenters: Monica Dongre, Sr. Employment Counsel at RTI International and Meredith Hamilton, Associate at Ogletree Deakin.

Free to volunteer attorneys who agree to take 2 pro bono cases (any case type) in 2024 and $40 for other attorneys.
