Mediation Center Power Hours CLE on Feb 18

Join the Mediation Center on Friday, February 18th for 2 hours CLE credit – 1 hour Ethics/Professional Responsibility & 1 hour Substance Abuse/Mental Health Awareness. Led by Asheville attorney and State Bar Councilor Anna Hamrick get News and Views from the NC Bar with a review of recent ethics opinions and proposed amendments to the ethics rules and updates on current challenges in the practice of law. Topics will include the new advertising rules, establishing understandable fee agreements, defining the scope of representation with new clients, tips for good communication with clients, requirements for supervision of your staff, understanding trust accounts and navigating the grievance process.

The second hour led by Dr. Jeanne Cummings looks at anger which is inevitable in dealing with difficult problems, clients, and counsel. For attorneys, anger management issues can come from the competitive nature of the legal field, fatigue, or working with difficult or combative personalities. Adequate skills for managing anger are essential in avoiding health complications, reduced productivity at work, and poor interpersonal relationships. In this hour, participants will learn some anger management strategies and learn about developing an anger management plan to reduce the destructive effects of anger on health and job performance.

The Mediation Center is an approved CLE sponsor under the regulations promulgated by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Continuing Legal Education.
