After conducting a thorough security assessment of the Buncombe County Courthouse Complex, including an independent evaluation, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is implementing new security measures consistent with best practices being employed by federal and other state court facilities.
The Sheriff’s Office will implement the following measures relevant to our Bar beginning Monday, October 6th:
1. Everyone who enters the building will go through the security check. All bags, contents of pockets, and belt will be scanned through the X-Ray (the purpose of the belt is because weapons have been discovered within them). 2. Removal of the turnstile from the front entrance/Move X-Ray machine and Metal Detector to accommodate more safe space for entrance. 3. The “jump” elevator located in the main lobby will be restricted to Sheriff’s Office personnel. Attorney’s will be allowed to take it down to Court Holding to meet with clients after verification that said client is in Court Holding. Once inside the Courthouse Complex, attorneys will maintain their current level of access. Attorneys will not be required to replace their current identification badges.

These new security measures may be somewhat inconvenient but we ask for your patience and understanding in complying with the recommendations of security professionals charged with keeping safe all who use our court facilities.
