Legal Screener

The Legal Screener is directly responsible for the prompt, thorough and accurate legal screening of applicants for a diverse range of PLS’ poverty law services and programs. This position requires high quality communication, effective interpersonal skills and the thorough, detailed entry of data in order to complete and track the legal screening process for prospective applicants in the Legal Server Case Management System. The position will provide support to and/or refer certain case types to pro bono programs and services.

The Legal Screener will focus on generalist legal screening (which include housing, consumer, advanced directives, guardianship, tax and other case types) in a fast-paced, dynamic setting. The demand for our services is high and the need to respond in a timely manner to all inquiries for services is a must. This position requires attention to detail and the skill set to handle a demanding workflow. The ability to work in a team environment with accurate data entry and multitasking throughout the Legal Services Case Management System is necessary. Written and oral communication skills are required to clearly convey timelines and assist applicants with all service needs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

– Provide high quality legal screening for prospective PLS Applicants.
– Accurately complete legal screening applications within the Legal Server System in a timely manner and monitor all generalist call-back lists and online applications.
– Respond to urgent requests for services and have the ability to flag issues for supervisory review.
– Coordinate and communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator on legal screening and use of volunteers, which will involve distribution of screening work and case flow coordination, as well as assisting in training of volunteer screeners when needed.

Salary/ Benefits
Salary ranges from $30,690 – $47,672 depending on experience. Excellent fringe benefits, including 401(k) retirement plan, as well as life, health, and disability insurance.
