James W. Kilbourne, Jr., to Chair Appellate Practice Section

James W. Kilbourne, Jr., a partner at Allen Stahl & Kilbourne, PLLC, was named as the Appellate Practice Section Chair by Clayton D. Morgan, President of the North Carolina Bar Association.  Kilbourne is the eleventh chair of the Section and the first from Western North Carolina.

The North Carolina Bar Association is the largest voluntary organization for legal professionals in North Carolina.  It carries out much of its work through its sections and divisions.  The Appellate Practice Section of the North Carolina Bar Association was jointly founded by the appellate practitioners and appellate judges to serve the bar with advocacy, legal education, and social interaction.  It continues to be one of the most congenial sections in the bar and fosters excellent bench-bar relations.

Kilbourne’s term coincides with the Section’s Tenth Anniversary, which will be celebrated with a gala in the spring.  “I am honored and humbled to serve as Section Chair during this most auspicious year.  We have a number of great events planned for the Section, culminating in our anniversary party,” he explained.

Kilbourne previously served as the Chair of the Convention Planning Committee for the Bar Association for the 2018 (Wilmington) and 2019 (Asheville) Conventions.  He has served on the Appellate Practice Section Council since the Section was formed.  In addition, Kilbourne has served on the North Carolina Appellate Rules Committee since 2015 and serves as the chair of the en banc subcommittee of the Appellate Rules Committee.
