With the changing landscape in the enforcement of immigration law in our country, Pisgah Legal Services receives dozens of calls each week from immigrants who are fearful and uncertain.
With just one immigration lawyer, Shoshana Fried to serve clients in 17 WNC counties, we cannot begin to meet the demand for legal advice and assistance. We cannot currently take any new immigration cases and people calling for assistance cannot get an appointment with Shoshana until late April because the need for her services is so high right now.
Many immigrant parents are requesting assistance with powers of attorney and other documents that will help ensure that their children would be safe in the case that the were detained or deported. Pisgah Legal/MAVL will begin referring these cases to volunteer attorneys and will host legal clinics across the region to help immigrant clients. Interpreters will be provided.
Join us for a lunch and learn on Friday, March 31st, 12:00-1:00 at Pisgah Legal Services on 62 Charlotte Street, where we will train you to create appropriate documents to help immigrant parents and share with you more details about how to get involved with this initiative.
RSVP to Katie Russell Miller at katierm@pisgahlegal.org if you’d like to attend. If you’re interested in volunteering but cannot attend, please let us know. Lunch provided, $10 donations for lunch appreciated!
