Honoring Judge J.O. Israel

The Buncombe County Bar has framed a photographic portrait of the late District Court Judge J.O. Israel, and the portrait will be hung in the hallway of the new section of the courthouse. Judge Israel was the first District Court Judge in Buncombe County, and served on the bench from 1970 – 1982.
Per the request of several of our member attorneys, we have arranged for a small gathering underneath the portrait on April 26, at 4pm, so that Judge Israel’s widow can view the portrait. Judge Pope will preside at the gathering. All Bar members are invited.
It is the Bar’s policy to pay for framed photographic portraits of judges who have served on the bench for ten years or more, after their retirement. We are delighted to be able to participate in honoring the service of our judges.
