High School Mock Trial Volunteers Needed

Carolina Center for Civic Education facilitates the statewide high school mock trial program. Each year, the program introduces hundreds of young people to our legal system through the hands-on learning activity of mock trial. Students will spend months preparing to argue a (fictional) case in local courtrooms against teams from other schools at the regional competition on Saturday, February 4, 2017.

The Nesbitt Discovery Academy (website: https://mlnda.buncombeschools.org/) is in need of an attorney advisor for their mock trial program. An attorney advisor would not be expected to be at every meeting; each team and attorney advisor modifies the schedule based on availability.

The competition case this year is a civil case involving an incident between a student and a school resource officer. The case and rules are available for download at http://ncmocktrial.org/competitions/case-materials. There are many additional training resources posted at http://ncmocktrial.org/resources/training-materials.

Please contact Susan H. Johnson, MPH, State Coordinator, Carolina Center for Civic Education at 919-360-0848or at sueheathjohnson@gmail.com if you are willing to volunteer.
