This one-hour virtual CLE program provides an overview of the characteristics of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and how it can affect law firms representing clients who may own virtual currency.  Topics of discussion include: the characteristics of cryptocurrency, how cryptocurrency can be used for illegal and legal purposes, how cryptocurrency is traced through the blockchain, the methods used to story cryptocurrency, the implications of cryptocurrency in litigation, and action steps to take as legal counsel. This CLE is free for all Buncombe Bar members, though the NC State Bar will bill your account for $3.50 for the credit of one hour.

Robert Nordlander is a CPA and former special agent with the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI). He is the principal member of Nordlander CPA, PLLC, a boutique forensic accounting and tax resolution firm located in Greensboro, North Carolina. With over 20 years experience as a white-collar criminal investigator, he has investigated various financial crimes related to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. He was a Cybercrime Coordinator for IRS-CI Charlotte Field Office and was detailed to the IRS-CI Cyber Crime Unit in Washington, D.C.
