Professionalism For New Admittees is a 12-hour, two-day continuing legal education course for attorneys who plan to practice in NC. It is $25 for new members of the Buncombe County Bar, and $325 ($25 per hour plus lunch) for others outside Buncombe County. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
The CLE is in person and will be held in the Starnes Conference Room at Van Winkle Law Firm in Asheville, beginning Thursday, October 9, at 8:30 a.m., and ending Friday, October 10 at 4:00 p.m.
According to the North Carolina State Bar, if you are admitted on or after January 1, 2011, you must complete the 12-hour Professionalism for New Admittees program. The program consists of 12 hours of training in subjects designated by the North Carolina State Bar, including professional responsibility, professionalism, and law office management.
A member who is licensed by a United States jurisdiction other than North Carolina for five or more years prior to admission to practice in North Carolina is exempt from the Professionalism for New Admittees program requirement and must notify the board of the exemption in the first annual report sent to the member.
