Born in Charlotte, NC to Greek immigrant parents, but raised in New York City, George Pappas is an attorney in Asheville, NC representing clients in Western North Carolina and nationwide in U.S. immigration law.
In addition to practicing law since 2003, Dr. Pappas was recently appointed by U.S. Attorney General Merrik Garland as Immigration Judge in 2023 presiding in the Boston and Chelmsford (MA) Immigration Courts until he was most recently fired by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi – a badge of professional honor, according to Dr. Pappas!
He has also researched and written his book The Literary and Legal Genealogy of Native American Dispossession – The Marshall Trilogy Cases 1823-1832 published by The Francis & Taylor Group, explaining how the U.S. Supreme Court blurred the distinction between literature and law, especially colonial literature, to dispossess Native Americans of their land. Dr. Pappas has also published articles in various journals, newspapers and academic blogs.
Dr. Pappas holds degrees from the London School of Economics & Political Science; The University of London; Delaware Law School, Widener University and Birkbeck School of Law University of London.
Dr. Pappas earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Birkbeck College, University of London.
Dr. Pappas is also a member of the Buncombe County Bar and looks forward to resuming his private practice of causing ‘good trouble’ in Asheville and beyond.
