All members are invited to meet with the Executive Committee to discuss the results of the recent member survey regarding member dues and services on Wednesday, January 10th from 12:30-1:30. The meeting will be held in the Buncombe County Courthouse in courtroom 2C.
In October, Buncombe Bar President Janet Amburgey sent all members a message to inform them of recent changes that will affect the operation of our local district Bar. “The North Carolina General Assembly’s most recent budget decreases the maximum allowable fee that can be charged by judicial district Bars. Beginning July 2024, the new cap will be set at $90, which is a significant decrease from the previous statute that allowed local bars to set dues at no more than what the State Bar charges. As you know, the Buncombe Bar has charged member dues of $150 annually for more than 18 years, and offers significant benefits and programming to its members that promote professionalism and collegiality,” she said.
As part of the planning process for the coming fiscal year, the Executive Committee is working to decide how to operate with a shortfall of one third of the Bar’s current budget. The Executive Committee received 137 responses to their survey in December, and will discuss those responses at this meeting. Please plan to attend to give your feedback.
