Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of NC District Courts

The North Carolina Judicial Branch is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the unified court system and District Court this year. On Tuesday, May 24th, 2016, the Buncombe County Bar is hosting with a special commemorative celebration in the Buncombe County Courthouse. All members of our local community are invited.

Established in 1966, the state’s unified court system handles approximately three million cases each year, and helps keep our citizens safe, our economy vibrant, and our rights and liberties secure.

Chief District Court Judge Calvin Hill will serve as moderator for the event, which will include stories of the court’s transition from several retired Buncombe County judges, a proclamation from the City of Asheville, and the national anthem sung by a special guest. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony. The event will be held in the foyer of the new Buncombe County Courthouse, and begins promptly at 5pm.
