J. Matthew Martin is an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration

Matthew is Board Certified as Specialist in Federal and State Criminal Law and Appellate Practice by the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization and possesses a unique portfolio of experience as a litigator, Judge, educator, academic and consultant on issues of Federal Indian Law.

He has argued cases in both of North Carolina’s appellate Courts, in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and, in the 1991 Term, in the Supreme Court of the United States. He has spoken across the country and internationally on issues of criminal law, the judicial process and Federal Indian law. He served for many years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the UNC and Elon Schools of law and is a faculty member and former officer of the Board of Trustees of the National Judicial College.
