Van Winkle, Buck, Wall, Starnes and Davis, P.A. is seeking a Litigation Attorney to join its Land Use Practice Group. Experienced attorneys, with 3 plus years of experience are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate will have some relevant litigation experience (including property owners association and/or zoning work) as well as exceptional research and writing skills, the ability to interpret and analyze complex transactions, a desire to build and grow their practice with the firm, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. The Van Winkle Law Firm is proud to continue its commitment to offer an ongoing public policy lecture series geared toward the thoughtful consideration of and discussion around important policy issues that face Buncombe County, the state and the nation. This second installment of The Van Winkle Law Firm Public Policy Lectures takes place on April 25th at UNC Asheville. The firm partnered with The David and Lin Brown Visionary Lecture Series and UNC Asheville to bring attorney, activist, and best-selling author Bryan Stevenson to Asheville.

Stevenson is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), an organization committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, challenging racial and economic injustice and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American Society. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting the abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill and aiding children prosecuted as adults. Stevenson is also the author of award-winning New York Times best-selling book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption. The April 25th event with Bryan Stevenson is free to the public and more information can be found at www.unca.edu.

Kilgore joined the firm 2016 and focuses his practice on probate law, trust & estate planning, trust and estate administration and trust reformations and terminations. His experience ranges from creating Powers of Attorneys and working with clients on Health Care documents to significant experience in wealth management where he guides clients in maintaining, preserving, protecting and transferring wealth from one generation to another. He strategically handles each client’s unique circumstances in a manner consistent with their goals. Kilgore is active in the local community and serves on Pisgah Legal Services Young Professionals Board, the Professional Advisory Committee to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, and the Executive Committee of Highland’s Circle (United Way). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Appalachian State University in 2007 and his law degree from Campbell University in 2012.

The Van Winkle Law Firm Welcomes Attorney Martin Moore

The Van Winkle Law Firm announced today that attorney Martin Moore has joined the firm as an associate in its litigation practice group. Moore will work with the firm’s litigation team representing clients in both personal and business disputes.

Before joining the firm, Moore worked in Asheville in criminal defense and juvenile advocacy where he gained significant trial experience. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010 and went on to earn his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2013. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Buncombe County Bar, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. Moore is Chair of the Buncombe County Board of Adjustment, Vice Chair of OpenDoors of Asheville and a volunteer judge for the Buncombe County Teen Court. In addition, he serves as President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Buncombe County Bar.
