Our Voice Features Tarana Burke on March 14

Please support the work of Our Voice for an evening with social justice champion and a 2017 Time Magazine Person of the Year, Tarana Burke. If you cannot attend, please buy one or more tickets to give to family/friends or purchase an equity ticket that Our Voice will donate to someone who otherwise could not attend. Tickets can be purchased at ourvoicenc.ticketbud.com. If tickets are sold out, please consider making a donation to Our Voice, Buncombe County’s rape crisis and prevention center, to support their work with survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking and their community outreach around prevention, education, counseling, outreach, rape kits, and crisis hotline.

Our Voice is honored to bring Tarana Burke to Asheville on March 14th for a ticketed special event, “Breaking the Silence” Speaker Series. The event will be at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel. Ms. Burke had dedicated more than 25 years to social justice and laying the groundwork for a movement that was initially created to help young women of color who survived sexual abuse and assault. Tarana Burke will speak on the current state of affairs and outpouring of sexual assault and harassment allegations, address pressing issues of respect, dignity and power dynamics in schools, workplaces and politics, and shine a light on the stories of survivors and voices that continue to be marginalized. Tarana Burke was named a 2017 TIME Magazine Person of the year for her role in breaking the silence around sexual violence.
