Attorney Tod M. Leaven Joins UNC as Adjunct Law Professor

Congratulations to Tod Leaven who is now an adjunct clinical assistant professor of law at the University of North Carolina School of Law. As an adjunct professor, Tod will teach Veterans Law and Title 38 Benefits, and supervise law students who are handling cases before the VA, Board of Veterans Appeal, and Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.  His areas of expertise are veterans law, military law, and interviewing and counseling clients. Tod is a partner at Grimes Teich Anderson LLP where he will continue his work as a veterans law attorney.

Tod frequently gives lectures and continuing legal education seminars on all facets of veterans law. He has been designated as an expert witness in federal court for veterans disability benefits. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications ranging from Veterans and military affairs to intellectual property. Tod is the founder and operator of the annual GTA Homeless Veterans Legal Clinic, serving homeless veterans in Western North Carolina. For the past several years, he has partnered with Carolina Law students who are members of the Veteran Advocacy Legal Organization to provide pro bono legal services during their spring break.

Tod received his B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He served in the United States Army with multiple deployments, including the initial Iraq invasion in 2003.

David Henson Is Now Of Counsel At Grimes Teich Anderson LLP

Grimes Teich Anderson is pleased to announce that attorney David Henson is now of counsel. David is a partner at Henson & Fuerst, P.A., a state-wide personal injury law firm with offices in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and Boone.

David has practiced law for more than 20 years and handles eminent domain cases across the state of North Carolina. He regularly represents clients against the North Carolina Department of Transportation, local municipalities and cities, utility companies, school boards, water authorities and other condemning authorities.

David received his bachelor’s degree with academic distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995 and his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1998.

For more than 20 years, David has been actively involved in the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), the state trial lawyer organization of more than 2,400 members who work to protect the rights of individuals. He has served on the Board of Governors, Executive Committee in several vice-president roles, and innumerable committees and task forces. He will serve as NCAJ President during the 2020-2021 term.

David is a firm believer in giving back to the community and has served on the boards of multiple non-profit organizations. Before becoming an attorney, David was an Emergency Medical Technician.
