Attorney Bill Auman Releases Murder Mystery Novel

Announcing the release of If Trees Could Testify…, a novel by William D. Auman, based on the true story of Madison County’s infamous Gahagan murders.  This cold-case mystery began with a double homicide that occurred in a small mountain community in North Carolina back in 1983, with defendants finally being arrested and charged in the cases eighteen years later.  The author was the principal defense attorney in the actual case.  This fictionalized account weaves a haunting tale of intrigue that includes biker gangs, organized crime and colorful characters such as the draft-dodging son of a snake-handling minister!  A search for justice for both victims and defendants who maintained their innocence is a central theme as the case unwinds and unveils a surprise conclusion.

“A case that represents stranger than life events that belongs on the silver screen.”  Fred Hughes, former editor/publisher of the Madison County News Record and Sentinel.
